What You Should Know About Accelerated Orthodontics

Traditional braces are a great way to have a beautiful smile, but the amount of time it takes can be disheartening. Luckily, there is the option of accelerated orthodontics. Accelerated orthodontics is available for anyone that doesn't want to wait 2-4 years to have straight teeth. The majority of patients have straight teeth within 3-5 months, though it can take up to eight months for severe cases.

Types of Accelerated Orthodontics

When it comes to accelerated orthodontics, you will find that there are a variety of different types. Your best option is to ask your orthodontist what they provide in their office and their recommendations based on your individual case. Some types of accelerated orthodontics include Invisalign, Six Month Smiles and different varieties of braces, such as ceramic braces and lingual braces.

To speed up the process, the orthodontist may do some work to the teeth first. This might include slimming or filing down some of the teeth, removing teeth or doing some work to the gums and jawbone.

Reasons to Get Accelerated Orthodontics

There are a few different advantages of accelerated orthodontics, aside from the fact that you get your straight teeth in less amount of time. Another thing to consider is that the faster the orthodontic treatment is done, the less impact it has on your general oral health. It is more difficult to keep your teeth and gums free of decay while wearing different types of braces. If you wear them half the time, you can get back to your normal oral routine faster and avoid severe tooth decay. You will also find that when your teeth are straight and the braces are removed, you can clean your teeth better than when they were misaligned.

Disadvantages to Keep in Mind

While it is nice to have orthodontic treatment in a shorter period of time, it is also important to understand the disadvantages. With accelerated orthodontics, you will most likely be paying more. Many of these treatments, such as Invisalign and Six Month Smiles, cost more in the long run than traditional braces. You might also need some other oral procedures that you wouldn't otherwise need if you went with the regular metal braces.

With this type of orthodontic treatment, you can have the smile you have always wanted in less than half the time of standard braces. Talk to your orthodontist about the different types of braces available and whether accelerated orthodontics is an option for you.
