Why Botox?

Botox is a trade name for botulinum toxin, which comes in the form of a purified protein. Botox is a safe,
effective, proven method for smoothing out wrinkles in the forehead, around the eyes, and mouth. Our
favorite Botox injectable right now is Xeomin, the purest form of botulinum toxin.

What to Expect

Before Treatment
Arrive at your consult or treatment appointment without makeup. Avoid alcohol 24 hours prior to treatment and anti-inflammatory medications for 7 days prior to treatment when possible. Patients should not be needle-phobic.
During Treatment
Your injector will mark the areas where the botox will be injected. A very small needle is used to inject the Botox under the skin. Most patients describe a very small pinch or nothing at all! The treatment will take about 10-15 minutes.
After Treatment
Do not exercise or partake in any strenuous activity for 4-6 hours after botox injections. Do not rub or massage the treated area. Avoid makeup application for 2 hours. Do not lie down for 4 hours. The effects should take place 2-10 days after injections. Enhancements (additional units) may be required after 2 weeks if the desired effect is not achieved. Call for a follow-up as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Botox?
Botox is a trade name for botulinum toxin, which comes in the form of a purified
protein. Botox is a safe, effective, proven method of smoothing out wrinkles in
the forehead, around the eyes, and mouth. Our favorite Botox injectable right
now is Xeomin, the purest form of botulinum toxin.
How does Botox work?
Wrinkles are caused by the repetitive contraction of the muscles underneath the
skin. Botox attaches itself to the nerve endings that are responsible for nerve
transmission to the facial muscles. This partially and temporarily paralyzes the
muscles so they are not able to contract at their full capacity. This creates a

smoother facial appearance approximately 2 to 10 days after treatment. The
effects of Botox last approximately 3 to 4 months.
What treatments do we specialize in?
-Lip Flip/Gummy Smile Correction: Botox treatment can be used around the
mouth and along the border of the lip to relax the muscle/lips. This gives the
illusion of a fuller lip (without filler!) and less gummy smile.
-TMJ Injections for Teeth Grinding/TMJ Issues: By injecting the largest muscle in
the TMJ, the masseter, we can greatly reduce the strength in which the muscle
contracts. For patients with chronic teeth grinding or bruxism, this helps stop or
reduce teeth grinding at the source.
-Jaw Reshaping/Slimming: Over the course of several treatments (6-12 months) of
Botox injections into the masseter muscle, Botox treatment can actually cause the
muscle to shrink over time since it cannot contract at full strength. For patients
with a more square jaw or prominent jaw muscle, this can create a more slim/oval
shaped face vs. square.
-Injections for Crows Feet, Scowl Lines, Forehead Wrinkles
How do I know if Botox treatment is right for me?
The doctor will evaluate your face at the time of treatment to decide where and
how much Botox is right for you. Every face is different, but Botox treatment is
generally great for patients with fine lines and wrinkles, as well as for younger
patients interested in preventing signs of aging. Botox can also help treat the
appearance of a “gummy smile” by relaxing the muscles around the mouth, and
can also treat TMJ related muscle pain and headaches.
Does Botox treatment freeze your face?
This is a common misconception about Botox injections. Botox treatment does
not have to create a frozen look. With proper technique, your face can still have
natural movement while lessening the creasing of the skin.
